It Happened Again!

So a few nights ago I'm minding my business and just watching my stories, as one does. I was looking at youtube videos and happened across one about contouring. I don't contour. I don't use bronzer. I don't do anything brown on my face - it just makes me look like I've got a big streak of dirt on me, or it goes orange. However, a while back on a whim I bought the NYX taupe blush after seeing another youtube video by someone with fair skin talking about how it was a good contour shade for lighties. And contouring was on my list of things to master this year (along with remastering liquid eyeliner, but 25 years of considering red wine a hobby has left me with hands too unsteady for that palaver these days). I bought the blush and then never did anything with it.

So anyway, there I am watching this contouring video and I suddenly remembered I had this taupe blush and thought I'd have a crack at it. I just grabbed the nearest clean, vaguely suitable brush that happened to be around and sucked in my cheeks and got to work. But seconds into it, something weird started to happen...

INORITE! Again???

I know I've had this a couple of years now, but still... it's not a brush I ever used that often and I take good care of my brushes and wash them properly. This is just pants. I really don't rate the Sigma face brushes - maybe they've improved but I'm not that bothered to find out. So far both of the stippling brushes have fallen apart and both my full size and travel size SS150 (I'm old school - don't know what the new numbers are) shed like mofos and the dye still runs when I wash them. Thumbs down, Sigma!

  1. :( That's sad. I love my eco tools brushes to bits. They never shed and they are cheap. I don't own any Sigma brushes except the one I picked up on your blog sale. I like it. What happened to you brush is totally unacceptable!

  2. Su, I haven't really had any issues with the eye brushes - I quite like those (although the #224 dupes shed a bit), but the face brushes are another story.

Vita, bugger indeed - that was the brush I used for applying cream blush. :-(

  3. You know I've owned two stippling badgerish brushes (ive forgotten the name for the two color thing), one a MAC and one a Models Prefer, and both have shed and acted like total bastards. I concluded that this shape/pattern just isn't a good one for the longevity of the brush. Or something.

  4. I had a sigma F80 that just started to shed like crazy and fell apart.. also I had a MAC mini stippling brush, and it disintegrated all at once... I was so surprised and disappointed... like you I take very good care of my brushes, I lost a bit of faith in Sigma and MAC quality

  5. I only own two Sigma brushes and they both do the same thing, the F80 and the SS187 (old numbering) it drives me mad and has put me off ever buying anymore Sigma brushes. I do have a MAC 130 that is also duo fibre which hasn't shed in the slightest.

  6. My stippling brushes are ELF. While I don't recommend anything else by them, I haven't experienced shedding using them for liquid foundation, creme blush or anything else.

  7. .....WOAH.

I've never seen a brush do that! Yikes.

Sorry about that, but your red wine shaky hands thing made me laugh so hard. :D

  8. Oh jeez, that is shocking! Meanwhile, I am curious about this NYX shade too, I've also heard heaps of people suggest it for fairbears.

  9. That is really bad Dee! How did the contouring work out though? I'm having another go at bronzer myself :)

  12. Sarah, I didn't get a chance to try out the contouring because I couldn't find another clean, suitable brush. Oh well, maybe I've done my big brush clean up this weekend.

  13. I've never seen anything like that..I have some shedding with some of my Sigma brushes but nothing crazy, maybe I've been lucky. The ELF studio line makes some great brushes for such a great price..even if they fall apart (which they don't) you can easily spring for a new one :)

  14. If you go Sigma... only go Sigmax - cos those brushes are crazy good.
