Maybelline Expert Wear Quad in Velvet Crush

I think I paid about $3 for this in The Reject Shop about a year ago. I'm not generally a fan of Maybelline, but you don't usually see their stuff that cheap in Australia so I picked it up. I don't think I've ever used it before aside from a bit of swatching.

It's been so hard to get pictures this last week - it's been really overcast in Adelaide and my house is dark at the best of times. Of the 876 million pics I snapped, I could only get one reasonably decent closed eye one, and none of the open eye or end of the day ones came out any good at all. Generally I don't mind dull weather - I certainly prefer it to the extreme heat of an Adelaide summer - but it's not great for picture-taking!

It almost looks more blue than purple to me. While I quite like the colours, I don't think much of the quality of this palette - it's not very highly pigmented, and it started to wear off from about midday.

This kind of thing makes me even more annoyed by the prices we pay in this country for mediocre crap like this. Sure, I paid $3, but I've seen it in Priceline and supermarkets for about $17, and it's not worth that amount at all.

  1. I love how honest you are. It makes me smile. I had the same experience with one of these quads but in the browny colour. Maybelline should stick to mascara, because that is their winning prod haha

  2. The colour looks great in the palette but you're right, it doesn't translate perfectly to the skin and wearing out by midday? No thank you :(
Thanks for such an honest review!

  3. Tegan, supposedly the formula of these quads has been improved, but to be honest, I don't care enough to find out if that's true. :-)

Amy, an eyeshadow that wears out by lunch is not a good deal at all, is it?

  4. Haha, Justine - yes, it's an actual place. I don't go in there very often though. It has a weird smell.

  5. Thanks for this :) Maybelline just does not do it for me, even for the price the quality just isn't there.

  6. shame about the quality cos the swatches of the shadows actually look really lovely. As much as I adore maybelline I've never really been a big fan of their eyeshadows cos they're just totally "meh"

Oh I've given you a Beauty Blogger Award so feel free to check it out and pass it on ♥

  7. The swatches look pretty. Too bad it doesn't even last.

  8. Pop, Maybelline doesn't really do much for me either. There's something eternally 80s about it.

Joy, thank you! I'm so chuffed. :-D

Claire, they are pretty swatches - all the more disappointing that the product itself is a bit of a dud.
