Pure Luxe and Sassy Minerals

I've been doing an inventory of my makeup and skincare products over the last week or so, and it turns out that I currently own 185 loose eyeshadow products (mostly minerals, but not all). In my defence, about 75% of them are samples, or technically samples (Everyday Minerals used to do samples that were almost the same size as some other companies' full sizes). Now comes the crazy part...

I almost never use loose eyeshadows. In fact, I had a large collection of Everyday Minerals that I gave away to a friend of mine a couple of years ago because I never used them. And now I have a large collection again. Ridiculous.

There are two factors that drive me to purchase these in such wild numbers:
  1. They're super cheap.
  2. They have a huge range of gorgeous colours.
Sassy Minerals Favor on lid, Eclipse in crease

Sassy Minerals, for example sells their samples for 75US cents, and shipping is only a few dollars. Not only that, they come in jars! I know loads of people hate those little sample baggies, and even though I can live with them, I much prefer jars.

Pure Luxe Indigo (scroll down to blues, it doesn't let me link directly to the colour) in crease, and Boy Toy on lid.

Pure Luxe Cosmetics sells their loose shadow samples for $1US. Again, shipping is pretty low and they also come in jars.

So why don't I wear all these gorgeous greens, purples, blues, pinks, chocolates and so on? One word: MESS. I love the idea of loose eyeshadows, but I hate the mess and the fiddliness of them.

I've been tossing up the idea of giving a lot of these away, but quite a few have been used at least once, and every one of them has been swatched (with a brush). Is it gross to give away loose eyeshadow? What are your thoughts?

  1. These colours look amazing on you, as for giving away loose shadow I probably wouldn't mind but I am a bit of a grot haha :P

  2. Very pretty blues and purples! I love the shadows from Pure luxe, they are so pigmented and has the right amount of shimmer.
I like using loose shadows, I feel like I have more control to build the colour up. Have you tried pressing them?

  3. Ah, Su - pressing sounds like so much woooooorrrrkkkk. lolol It's a thought, though...

  4. Favor and Eclipse look stunning! Those two you should definitely press and keep (I went through a pressing phase where I stopped short of breaking perfectly good powders just so I could fix them!).

The rest give away, it's not gross at all.

  5. I personally wouldn't having a single problem getting/winning a shadow, whether loose or pressed, that someone had used before. I'm just not squeamish about stuff like that. But I know some people are. Hopefully you'll find most of your readers don't care. :)

I need to use my loose shadows more, too. I have a metric crap ton. It's just so much easier to use a pressed shadow. *sigh*

  7. These are beautiful! That's the thing with those loose shadows - they are a bit messy to apply, but suck you in with a beautiful result! :)

  8. I know what you mean. I have stopped buying loose eye shadows because I just don't use them, I make way too much mess when I do.

  9. Very pretty colors! Thats funny that you have so many, but hardly ever wear them! I exclusively wear loose shadows. I don't remember that last time I wore a pressed shadow!

  10. I too am back into my loose eye shadows again. Maybe we're just more prepared to bother with them in summer and it does help that the colours are brighter as well :)

  11. You know my thoughts on the matter cos I've been planning on doing the same thing! It's a fantastic idea cos at least you'll they'll be going to a loving home :)

I adore the massive variety of colours available when it comes to loose shadows but I hate the way I have to cover my cheek with a tissue when I apply them and no matter how careful I am I always end up with a sprinkle of eyeshadow on my dressing table. Grrr

  13. Oooh the pigmentation of those shadows look pretty good! =)
I don't think there's a problem with giving away shadows that have been used! Seems perfectly fine.

  14. most of my eyeshadows are loose dusts or loose pigments haha. I have a couple of palettes or pressed shadows which I don't tend to use much. Silly me. Those colours are amazingly pigmented though, wow!

  15. Ya know - I've only got a wee collection of loose minerals, & for about a year now I've been meaning to press them & put in a palette....hasn't happened yet - d'oh!
They do have fantastic colour ranges, but yeah - they're fiddly, messy & I find time consuming to work with - especially on a work day morning :(
Could you press the colours you really like & give away the dupes / ones you're not fussed on? I don't think it's an issue giving them away as long as you've stated they're used (as you have already).......lipsticks however would gross me out - which is annoying as I just found another major stash of em in my wardrobe the other day - eek! I am on lippie buying ban forever at this rate LOL! ;P

  16. I think it's okay as long as you know you've used them in the cleanest way possible. I fall in love with so many loose shadows, I think they are such a beautiful looking product despite needing more effort.

  17. when you apply this make up you have to make sure it's neat and clean. Since you want the result to be properly done and also you don't want to mess around with your eye cream reviews stuffs that will make you look like a living dead.
