Revlon Colorstay 12 Hour Eyeshadow Quad: Blushed Wines

Can someone please tell me how to stop my eyes from looking so bloodshot all the time? I never get enough sleep (get up at 5:30, can't get to sleep early enough at night), so I am always looking really bleary of late.

Anyway, these palettes are priced at a RIDICULOUS $25ish here in Australia. I bought mine from the US in my Drugstore haul for about $6US... and that's pretty much all it's worth.

The pigmentation is not terrible, but it's nothing fantastic either. It's about what I would expect from a $6 palette. Certainly not what I would expect from a $25 palette. They are fairly smooth, but quite dry and a bit powdery.
(I smudged a bit of NYX Jumbo Pencil in Slate along the lashline just to define it a bit). The lighter colours are a bit too shiny for my taste.

Lasting power - eh. Not too much creasing but quite a bit of fading. Nothing terrible, but nothing impressive either.

I have three of these quads (the other two are Neutral Khaki and Coffee Bean), and they're all pretty much the same. They're okay, nothing great, stupidly overpriced here. That's really all I can say about them.

That was a mouth full. Don't know if it's available where you are at.

  3. I have a couple of these revlon palettes too and they are okay, nice mattes and shimmers in them. They are quite pricey in Canada too, but not as much as Australia apparently! whoa!

  4. I just can't get enthused about Revlon. Their packaging sucks. It's shallow, but that really makes a difference for me.

Although I have fond memories of the week I was a Revlon girl (I was working in myer...) I'd turn up, they'd look at me and wince then sit me down and do my make up before they let me deal with customers. And told me off if I didn't replenish/top up through the day. Play with make up all day? Don't mind if I do!

  5. You really do make the best of this palette Dee - good work!

Try taking Bilberry tablets for red eyes. I wore contacts for years, which subsequently ruined my eyes and made them look red all the time. Taking these tablets really helped :)

  6. How disappointing. I was considering dropping $25 on a new palette they have with teal, plum, grey and white but I just won't bother now.

  7. "stupidly overpriced" lol! that's what i think about revlon. i used to be revlon fan (i thought it was quite cheap not knowing how much cheaper it is outside australia) but like you say, their colors are so similar. i got bored and moved on.

  8. It's unfortunate that many makeup items are overpriced in Australia. Although...does it help deter you from buying a lot of beauty products? :)

  9. Are you into vintage, too? I saw you're subscribed to Vixen Vintage. I'm just now getting into that stuff as well. Are there any vintage BEAUTY specific blogs that you follow? You know, only concentrating on makeup and hair.

  10. Justine, that's the thing isn't it - they're okay. Nice enough, but nothing great.

Suzanne, I wish I had someone to put my face on for me when I got to work!

Sarah, thanks for the tip - I'll see if I can get some this week. :-)

Natalie, don't bother. Maybe if they have one of those two for one dealios, but definitely not worth the full price here.

prettymom, it's a shock when you realise how different prices are outside Australia, isn't it? Revlon is one of the highest priced cosmetic lines here with the "drugstore" paramters and the quality just doesn't live up to the price tag.

Fiona, I used to think I had a fairly large makeup collection until I discovered how much I could buy for way less online a couple of years ago, and then my collection pretty much exploded! I'm not sure finding cheaper things elsewhere is a good thing or a bad thing...

  11. Louzee, I do love all things vintage, though it's been many years since I dressed the part or did the makeup or hair (I had a Grace Kelly/Doris Day thing going on in my late teens). I don't think I know of any vintage makeup blogs, though I do know of a youtuber who does a lot of vintage looks:

There's also a vintage makeup community on livejournal but it's not very active, unfortunately.

  12. Shame about the pigmentation. The colours look pretty in the pan.

If you want to your eyes to look good temporarily you can use those red eye reduction drops, but it's important to stop after a few days. the phenylephrine basically contracts your blood vessels to make your eyes look white. after a few days it actually damages the blood vessels. Just get more sleep!

  13. Jen, I'd love to get more sleep - it just doesn't happen for me, unfortunately. I've always been a bad sleeper. :-(

Thanks for the eye drops tips!
