Wet'n'Wild Color Icon Trio: Cool As A Cucumber

It's been ages since I did a road test of one of my palettes - I did a few back in early December and then stopped because the weather was too hot to be messing around much with makeup. I went back to either bare eyelids or some neutral that I could swipe over without having to worry about blending and faffing about. I've been itching to get back into it as I really enjoyed playing with all these products and working out what I like and what I don't, so now that the weather has cooled down a bit (hopefully for a while), I'm back doing some.

The Wet'n'Wild Color Icon Trios are available from Nonpareil Boutique for $3US each, and they are excellent for the price - highly pigmented and reasonably long-lasting. They take a bit longer to blend than pricier eyeshadows, but I can live with that.

I've never really used this palette before - the colours seemed a bit jarring together the first time I saw it and I couldn't see how I could get it to work, so it was kind of put aside and forgotten for a long time.

If I look tired, that's because I am - these were taken at about 6am Monday morning (and it was really humid, so I'd slept like rubbish and my face was all shiny). I kept the colours deliberately muted, as I was going to work, and they were applied over UDPP.

I definitely took photos at the end of the day, but I can't for the life of me find them. However, the fading and creasing was minimal - it looked almost the same at 4pm as it had at 6am - I think that's why I can't find them, I accidentally saved two lots of morning pics instead of one lot of morning and one lot of afternoon because they looked so similar.

I really like the longevity and the quality of the eyeshadows - particularly given the price - though I'm not so sure about the colours. Even though I love greens and purples and own quite a lot of them, I've been gravitating towards neutrals a lot more in the last few months, and I think I might be a bit past my Colourful Years.

I managed to get hold of some of the newly released ones on eBay and they have some beautiful neutral colours, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on those and trying them out.

By the way, the green lid colour in this palette is supposed to be a dupe for MAC Humid, which I tested here. It's close enough that I think if you have either, you don't need the other.

  1. I agree with you about gravitating to neutrals, that's normally the shades that I wear too. But the purple and green looks great on your eyes. :)

  5. When I first saw the picture I thought that it was an Almay palette that I own... the colors look identical.
I'm like you, the colors aren't something that I would have put together personally, but I do look the way they look once applied. It's a nice look for when you want something brighter and more playful, but still not too out- there.
