Clarins Skin Beauty Repair Concentrate

I don't really have sensitive skin as such - that is, I don't generally have to be careful about certain brands or ingredients. However, as I have a tendency to chop and change products and test out a lot of different things, every now and then my skin rebels and goes a bit nuts.

This is what was happening when I went to visit the Clarins counter some time last year. The sales assistant recommended the Skin Beauty Repair Concentrate, and although I nearly keeled over from the price of it ($86AUD, from memory), I decided to give it go. To be honest, I rarely stop and engage with shop assistants on makeup counters because as soon as they have my attention, they can pretty much sell me anything. A couple of times when I just wanted a GWP and only needed to buy specific things to get it, I would send Ben in with a list so I didn't have to cop the cajoling to buy something else, and something else and something else...

I pulled it out last week after seeing the "before" pictures from my recent foundation reviews. My skin was really red and flaky, with a couple of break outs here and there.

The product is kind of an oil, I suppose - a couple of squirts is all you need to cover your face and neck, so even though it's a tiny little bottle, it lasts a fair while, and you only need to use it for a week or two at a time until your skin settles down. When I'm using it I try not to use much else if I can help it. In the morning I just have cleanser, toner, eye cream and a moisturiser with sunscreen in it, and in the evening I cleanse, tone, apply eye cream, and then this stuff. I don't put any kind of moisturiser over it; just let it do its thing. It takes about 20 minutes to sink in completely, and has quite a strong scent of lavender, which thankfully fades fairly quickly (I'm not keen on the smell of lavender). When I wear this, I wake up in the morning with my skin feeling soft and smooth.

As you can see from the picture (I realised after that the cheeks were a different side in each pic, but they both looked crap before and they both look better now, so it's the same effect), it works a treat. A week later the redness is calmed down considerably, the break outs are gone, the pores are smoother and less obvious. Isn't it awesome?

EDIT:  Don't just take my word for it. Gloss Queen has raved about this product in the past as well.

  1. I just saw they have it on Strawberrynet at the moment for about $30 cheaper and I'm tempted to buy some to stock up, since my current bottle probably only has another week left in it.

It's totally worth the ridiculous price, though. It really makes a difference. :-)

  2. Ah I love finding these things! When I was using a certain BHA product every now and then, about every 2 months, my skin would come out in eczema/burn type patches and i had no idea what to do! You can definitely see the difference here!

  5. I'm tempted to stock up at the moment too, this is such a great product. Have you tried Atopalm? It's another great product for sensitive skin, but better for winter use as it's a cream.

  6. Never heard of Atopalm, GQ, but I'm going to read up on it right now!

  7. I have this at home but did not have a lot of success with it - I might try it again for two full weeks though. At the time I also experienced breakouts and I attributed it to this but in hindsight it could have been a couple of other products at fault.

  8. tbp.com, it's so hard to tell sometimes which product is the culprit, isn't it? I don't know about you, but I'm always trying different things and they often overlap. :-)
