NYX Root Beer vs... NYX Root Beer

A while back I read on a blog or forum or somewhere in my travels that the colours in NYX eyeshadow trios are different from the single eyeshadow colours of the same name. It was one of those trivial bits of information that I tucked away in my head somewhere, and I was reminded of it again the other day while looking at femputer's NYX Trio swatches. I didn't think I had any doubles to compare them, but this morning I was rummaging around for something else and discovered that I do actually have one - Root Beer.

Root Beer is the colour on the far right of the trio, which is Barely There/Champagne/Root Beer, and you can see just from the photo above that it's different to the single eyeshadow. Now check out the swatches:

L-R: Trio Root Beer, Single Root Beer.

They're completely different! I don't understand why NYX would do that - it seems really weird.

Do you have any doubles of the NYX single/trio eyeshadows? Are they different?

  1. I have Salmon in a single and in a Trio and they are significally different. I'll make sure to do a swatch when I get onto my NYX swatching next week - I am determined to get it done before going back to work.

I wouldn't mind comparing your champange in the Trio to my single because they also look off to me.

  2. I don't have any of the trios so I really didn't know that. How weird, why on earth would they make it so confusing?!

  3. YES! Absolutely. The Champagne in the trio and the single Champagne is a wee bit off, also, along with what you just mentioned. I don't use NYX anymore, but they should really work on their product consistency because they did mention on their FB that eyeshadow singles are available for most of their trios. If they're not the same, then why bother buying them!

  5. whoa, I have the trio that you have there, and always found root beer to be too light there, but you are right so different. I've read that trios are less pigmented, but I find some of my trios to be very good.

  6. That's so odd.. LOL I don't think they even realised it! >_<

  7. Justine, I've found the trios a bit less pigmented too (some colours more than others), but these are just totally different colours - the trio one has a bit of a grey tone to it and is almost a taupe, whereas the single has a slight red undertone. It's so strange!

  8. That is very weird! And quite misleading to consumers. Thanks for giving us the heads up.

  9. That's bizarre... NYX has so many inconsistencies. Like how their "Taupe" lipgloss is a pink.

  10. Heather, and everything they call "peach" is pink too!

  11. It is really strange that NYX would do that. Maybe they need help in their Product Naming Department. I'm up for the job. :P
