Review: Alpha-H

A few months ago I bought a starter kit of Alpha-H products from Adore Beauty purely on impulse, and then promptly shoved it in a drawer and forgot about it. However, in my current attempts to not buy anything I don't absolutely need, I've been working my way through my "samples and trials" drawer (pictured above), and a few weeks ago I hauled the kit out and started using it. The kit comes with the following products:

*Liquid Gold 50ml
*Triple Action Cleanser 50ml
*Liquid Gold Daily Poly-Oxidant Complex 30ml
*Rejuvenating Cream 50ml
*Liquid Gold Smoothing and Perfecting Mask 4ml
*Liquid Gold Power Peeling Pads x 3

So, what's it all like then?

Liquid Gold: Alpha-H's cult product - everyone raves about this stuff, including me. I'm not going to say anything much about it here, as I have already reviewed it before.

Triple Action Cleanser: This is a gel cleanser that doesn't foam. What I don't like about it is that it's so light, and also colourless, so it's hard to see whether you've actually gotten it all over your face. As for miracle properties - it's a cleanser. It cleanses. I'm not sure I'd shell out for a full bottle of it, given how many other cheaper, just as effective cleansers there are out there,  but it certainly does what it's supposed to do.I should add that I have not used it to clean my eye makeup, so I don't know how effective it is on that score.

Liquid Gold Daily Poly-Oxidant Complex: Now this I would shell out for. It's a serum - very light and quite liquidy. You only need one or two pumps to spread on your face and neck. It claims to protect against pollutants and free radicals - whether that's true, who can say. However, since I've been using it, I've noticed my skin is definitely softer and smoother, and it also adds a lovely smooth base under moisturiser, which makes foundation a dream to apply. It's quite pricy though, so if you're not in the market to spend $80AUD on a serum, you could probably get the same effectiveness with something like, say, Paula's Choice Super-Antioxidant Concentrates (half the price if you're a Paula's Choice member!).

Rejuvenating Cream: A moisturiser with 10% Glycolic Acid - not for the faint-hearted! This tingles a bit when you first start to use it, and for a couple of days my face was a bit red and patchy-looking, but after a few days of use it settled down and now my skin feels much more smooth and even. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone whose skin is the least bit sensitive.

Liquid Gold Smoothing And Perfecting Mask: I only had a small sample of this - enough for one application - so I can't speak for its ongoing effects. It's a nice mask, it feels creamy and when you remove it the skin is beautifully soft and smooth. However, it did bring out a lot of redness in my cheeks, which I suspect was the lavender.

Liquid Gold Power Peeling Pads: Again, I only had three of these so I may be missing out some kind of cumulative effect, but honestly, they didn't seem to do all that much. I expected them to be very strong, but to me they were just like Liquid Gold on a cotton pad. A bit pointless, really.

Would I buy this again? Yes and no - not the kit, but certainly some of the products. I really like the Poly-Oxidant Complex, and of course the Liquid Gold. I like the moisturiser too, but it's not a HG one for me. If it was on special or part of a deal with one of those other two products, I might consider it. I wouldn't go out of my way for the cleanser, though it was quite good - it's just that a cleanser is a cleanser, really, and I already have HG ones that I was not at all tempted to push aside for this one. I wouldn't bother with the mask or the peeling pads.

Overall, I think Alpha-H products are very effective, and excellent quality. They have a range of kits to treat various skin issues - ageing, acne, and so on - and though they're not cheap, they're worth having a try if you can afford it and you're after a range of products to treat a specific concern.

  1. I have heard so much about Alpha H! So far, I have only used those peeling pads, they are alright. You are right, not very powerful.
