Noodle Arms Does Fashion

I'm not a fashion person - I've basically stuck to variations of the same look for 20 years - some kind of dress, some kind of little cardie, twin sets when I'm at the smaller end of my wardrobe (I have clothing in six different sizes - my weight has gone up and down quite dramatically over the years). As for shoes, it's either maryjanes or pointy-toed ones with kitten heels. Basic, basic, basic.

Noodle Arms also has a specific style preference, but she's much more into clothes than I am. Her style through the years has changed considerably, and you can pinpoint in these photos the period where she stopped wearing what I bought for her and started doing her own thing.

This is a dress I bought for her for a wedding. Awwww.

An explosion of pink!

Toothless and starting to move into her own territory. Still got the pink skirt, but the hoodies (which I hate) are making an appearance. Note the handbag! She started carrying that around so "everyone will think I have a mobile phone". From the mouths of babes...

Pinks are well and truly gone now. Only muted colours - brown, beige, brown, brown, brown. Erg.

The love affair with skinny jeans begins.

Aaaaand finally we hit emo territory, where we stay for about two years.

For the past couple of years, she's been wearing shorts and t-shirts pretty much every single day. On cold days she has tights or leggings under the shorts, and a hoodie over the t-shirt. Her shoes have been almost exclusively Converse since she was about 4 years old. When one pair wears out, I buy her a new pair. However, in the last couple of months she has started to show an interest in dresses, and because she's a good girl and I'm the World's Greatest Mother, I decided to get her the Modcloth one she had hinted about SO SUBTLY in her recent guest blog post. I ended up buying her two dresses, because the postage was about $27US for one (!!!), and only about a dollar more for two. The delivery was fantastically quick, by the way - less than a week to ship from the US to Australia. I guess that's what you're paying for.

Anyway, here she is modelling her new dresses, which she LOVES. That stripey one brings back memories of 1987, the Mel and Kim (RIP Mel) era.

And you can see why I call her Noodle Arms - those limbs are the best things ever for swatching!

  2. Jessica, everyone says she looks just like me. Unfortunately for me, she's the tall, skinny version and I'm the opposite. ;-(

Jacquie, you must remember Mel and Kim. LATE 80s.

  4. I just hope she doesn't turn out like me as a teenager - I was pretty horrible! I doubt it though, she's a lot more sensible and a lot smarter than I was at her age.

  6. All I wore when I was a teenager was Converse and DMs cos they're awesome and seriously comfy.

She looks great in the dresses and the more emo style. But to be fair I reckon she could wear a bin liner and look great

  7. Thanks Su, she's a lovely girl. I'm very proud of her. :-)

AMU, I wore Converse and DMs when I was younger too. I bought Noodles a pair of DMs before she was even born - they were on sale (and DMs NEVER go on sale here) half price so I got the smallest possible size. They didn't fit her until she was nearly 5, lol. She hated them at first until an older kid at school told her they looked really cool. When she outgrew them I passed them on to a friend's son. Love the DMs, they never go out of fashion. :-)
